Types of Drawings Used in Construction

Construction drawings are graphical depictions of the structure that needs to be built, the plan in which it will be laid out, and precise drawings of various building components and their proportions. Drawings direct multiple teams working on various tasks to fulfil them in accordance with requirements.

Following are some of the common types of construction drawings: 

Block Plan:

This is a scaled-down depiction of the structure and its surrounding elements on a map. This plan provides information about neighbouring buildings’ boundaries, roads, and other features that are necessary to examine the construction site. Knowing the goals for the project is helpful to the construction company. Usually, it is constructed at scales between 1:2500 and 1:500.

Electrical Drawings:

These drawings are created to show the location of the electrical outlets, lighting, and fan fixtures that will be installed in the building. These designs also show the wiring layout and the electrical loads supported by the various power outlets. Earthing layouts, light and fan fixture layouts, cable tray arrangement, generators, protective systems, and other frequent elements are often depicted in electrical drawings.

Structural Drawings:

Structural drawings are also referred to as Civil Engineering drawings. These sketches show the many components of a structural skeleton that the site engineers and employees use as a reference. General Notes, Excavation Drawings, Column Layouts, Beam Layouts, Roof Slab Layouts, and other commonly used structural drawings are the basic types.

Architectural Drawing:

These drawings make it easier to understand the structure’s plan and related dimensions. Before construction starts, references to these drawings are made. These illustrations actually serve as blueprints for the construction that needs to be built. Foundation plans, floor plans, sectional drawings, elevation drawings, and other architectural drawings are frequently utilised.

Production Designs: These designs satisfy the functional criteria connected to various tasks that must be carried out by the engaged person or team. Each structural component that needs to be built requires a pre-planned collection of materials, tools, equipment, labour, and legal knowledge. The production drawings contain all of these elements. This might also include the steps that must be taken to get these components.

HVAC Drawings:

HVAC drawings are mechanical representations of a building that show the framework for the ventilation and heating systems. According to the structural and site requirements, these designs provide specifics regarding the central heating patterns, ventilation lines, and outputs.

Plumbing Drawings:

Plumbing drawings must be included in construction drawings for both residential and commercial structures, similar to electrical drawings. The plumbing layouts that need to be installed, such as taps, basins, toilets, pipelines, groundwater motor pipes, etc., are included in these maps. These are utilised after the project’s structural construction is complete. Plumbing drawings show the various pipe layouts, materials, and locations of outlets.

Environmental Designs:

These plans usually include the environmentally friendly practices that must be used during the building process. These are designed to deter behaviours that have a more negative impact on the environment. These plans’ major goal is to reduce the construction project’s negative effects on the environment and in the future.

Fire Fighting Drawings: 

As the name implies, these drawings show the safety measures that must be taken to protect the building and inmates in an emergency. The locations of fire hoses, escape routes, water outlets, and other safety features are indicated on these drawings.

Final Completion:

These drawings show the smaller-scale, more specific plans for the building after the main framework has been built. This is often constructed for the structure’s aesthetic and practical worth. These drawings include ceiling designs, plaster and paint designs, woodwork patterns, tile and floor patterns and theme patterns.
